Prize Chicken ate Ruby Earring!

Wow tough deal, but a simple solution for me. 1000 dollars will buy a lot of chicken feed and chickens for that matter.

Sorry about that. I suppose you could wait her out for a while but I agree the stuff in her gizzard and crop may effect the earring. I would assume the ruby would still be fine but you might be looking for a new setting?

too bad you can't stick a tube in her crop and suck it out.. hmmm wonder if doc could do something like that? the dentist? he has that water sucker thingy in your mouth how about a magnate? lol. gl and i hope she passes it and you don't have to worry about it

I would expect a ruby to pass through with ease, but i can't be sure.
You have the choice between Getting it now, but she dies, or waiting... I truely beleive it will pass... but that is only if the ear ring doesn't injure her first... which would be my concern personally ... But then i value my chickens over my jewelry so, it's all in the person...

If you want to try and make her pass it, then I would flush her out with an epson salt solution.

Mix 1 teaspoon of epson salt in 1 ounce of warm Water. Let stand 10 minutes or so, should be clear by then.

Draw off the solution avoiding the excess salt in the bottom(if there is any).

Give a standard hen 5-7 CC or enough to fill her crop about half way. That should 'flush' her out fairly well. If it does not pass, then it is either stuck somewhere or in her gizzard.

A small handheld metal detector can find where it actually is.

I would take her to the vet and have them remove it. If it is still in her croup then it shouldn't be too hard. If you have a big enough tube and know how to tube a chicken you could try sucking it out..... but I'd try the vet. That way you can keep both.
