Hi

Unfortunately our 10 month old female Cayuga, Boston, has been having respiratory issues. She open mouth gasps for air each breath. She started doing this 4 days ago. Leading up to this, she had a high pitched occasional cough/sneeze for about a month. It wasn't very often so we weren't concerned, though now I wish we would have looked into it.

She was removed from her brother and sister and is now living in our tub. She was seen twice by the vet. She is on a dewoormer, antibiotic, and antifungal. Because she has not improved I suspect fungal is the answer. She is even a little worse because she has lost her appetite.

Her siblings are fine. We did change out the bedding. It has been very rainy. There was mold 4 inches down in the hay in their pen. The top layer of their enclosure stays pretty dry. They also free range. I suspected gape worm because there are tons of earth worms here. But because of no improvement I think fungus is the answer.

I was wondering if anyones duck recovered from this sort of respiratory situation. I am wondering if I should be preparing my daughter for the worst.

Update: We had her antibiotic switched on Tuesday since she didnt seem to be improving since Sunday. She went from doxycycline to izithromicin. Two days after the switch see has improved a lot though her appetite is still low. Her breathing is much better, no longer gaping. Her voice is back which is a blessing and a curse because shes living in the house as she recovers. Her energy is up, she can't stand being in the tub and always jumps out. She now talks to her family at the back glass door. She is still on the fungicide, itraconazole. I am not sure what is bringing about the turn around, the antibiotic switch or that the fungicide is helping (I hear the fungicide can take longer to work). I did order the Oxine but it hasn't arrived in the mail yet. Hopefully she continues to improve.
