ok so I have a game roo and a mix of different hens the rooster just started keeping my Delaware up in the nest boxes and on a shelf away from the rest of the hens and I dunno what to do I'm really kinda new to this and she will not come down at all I have to put food and water up there for her I'm trying to hurry and get another pen built for her but it's taking awhile to get some money to buy the materials and all any idea why he all of a sudden decided he doesn't like her ? when I got her her but was bald her feather look like they are coming back in and my hubbie said maybe she's sick she doesn't act sick I check for mites everynight ?

you might try giving the roo a couple days away from the girls, maybe a large dog kennel with his own food and water, that way you can see how the rest act towards her, I know sometimes when my dominant hen won't submit to our dominant roo he will get pretty nasty with her, and thats not usually how her treats his girls. Where is she in the pecking order?

I've never had a roo act like this but I agree maybe get him away for awhile and let her be at ease. Hopefully someone can be of more help

It wouldn't hurt to sequester the roo for a while to see if the Delaware hen will mix with the other hens. By the way she is probably just molting. I have noticed with my chickens that when they lose feathers during the molt they also lose some rank in the pecking order and roost away from the others etc. Then when their feathers regrow they gain their former status again.

as far as the pecking order goes I really can't tell they all seem to get along fine feeding time they all just run up and eat lol except her she stays away or is chased away by Jake (my roos name lol ) and as far as molting she's still laying could she lay and molt ? IDK I think I'm going to hang out around the pen today and see how they act towards her when it's not feeding time and I'll try moving JAke for a while

Nope she won't molt and lay so maybe Jake is pulling out her feathers. I think your idea is a good one, just hang out and see whats going on. Please let us know how it's going. and I'm sorry I forgot to

I had a Brahma roo that scalped one of my hens, he is no longer with us, made chicken 'n dumplings out of him, but she was pretty messed up for a while.
