Problem baby chick!

Update on Popcorn: At seven days old, he is now doing much better, drinking and pecking around the brooder on his own.

However he still doesn't EAT on his own! It must be just a bad habit that I'm responsible for, but I still give him little lightly softened bits of chick food several times a day. He pecks at the dry crumbs in his brooder but never seems to eat any and his crop is empty when I take him out to feed him. I've tried leaving softened food in the brooder but it just dries out. I've tried leaving him with just the crumbles but find him hungry and empty bellied. So I will continue to feed him for the time being.

He seems to be growing well though. His wings are almost fully feathered now. :love

Oh he definitely can see. He looks me right in the eye all the time, follows the food bits if I roll them on the table in front of him, pecks at tiny bits of things etc...
It's possible his vision isn't completely right and he has trouble seeing the tiny crumbles clearly but I think it's more a case of him being a SPOILED only child!

No ordinary dry crumbs for little Popcorn. He only eats water softened hand delivered food prepared by his personal chef, lol. :)

I'm hoping that eventually, when he gets bigger and the crumbs don't seem so daunting, he will just figure it out. Chickens never usually have a problem eating...everything!
