One of my Delawares started laying on her side. At first I thought she was dead! but she opened her eyes and peeped at me. I thought, well, maybe her leg was broke. But after I picked her up to examine her legs seemed perfectly fine! So I put her back down and she started acting like her normal self...then one of my Ancona babies started to do it! Did the same with that one and it too started acting the same..Then I noticed when they first start laying on there sides they kick very fast, looks WEIRD! What is Wrong? What could they be doing? Do you think they are sick??

My silkies do this occasionally. It seems to be when they are wanting a sand bath or I will let them out for awhile and they get in the dirt and they just spread out. I was like you, I thought they had a broken wing. They always get up and go on. If they are acting normal other that this I would just keep and eye on them. Maybe someone with more experience that I can add to this if its anything to worry about. Good luck!

MandyH You'll shoot your eye out!

Yes, they stretch out to sun or soak up some heat lamp rays. I always think one has been trampled and check to make sure.
