What's going on with my hen?

I thought it may have been a piece of debris in the eye but it kinda looks like her 3rd eyelid is torn and causing aggravation. The right eye is fine.

I've been flushing the eye with normal saline solution. I don't know what else to do. Is there something in the eye? Will it get better on its own?

Her eye also looks swollen and there are some dark spots on the lids, along with the conjunctiva or the third eyelid, whichever it is. Could she have been pecked in the eye or gotten something in her eye? This probably should be seen by a vet for care. In the meantime, I would use some Terramycin eye ointment or plain Neosporin ointment in the eye twice a day.

Yes could have been pecked or possibly something in the eye. I really have no ideal what caused it. She seems to be holder her eye open a little longer/better now but still wants to close the eye some. Should I continue flushing too?

It looks like the pinkish membrane along the inside of the eye has pulled back and split to me. This is my first time examining eyeballs and I don't know if that is actually the 3rd eyelid or part of the inner eyelid. I don't see any damage to her actual eye. How could that be hanging out there like that without any other signs of trauma besides maybe a peck mark?

Eye is less swollen today so at least the swelling seems to be going down. Been flushing and then using Neosporin. The ointment is very hard to actually get it in the eye and really can't tell if it got in there good when the chicken blinks. If it wasn't for that piece of meat hanging there bothering the chicken, I would say everything will be fine.

I don't know what to do about that skin hanging there. Do you think it will dry up and fall away or something?

I would not disturb the pink conjunctiva, but keep flushing the eye,and apply the Neosporin twice daily. It is hard to put ointment into the eye, but just get a dab or about 1/8 inch on the lower eyelid, and she should blink and spread it as it warms to body temperature. Glad to hear that the swelling is going down.

The eye looks much better now. Haven't given any ointment in the past couple of days. The conjunctiva has drawn up a little and sorta corrected itself.
