I bought some "unknown" eggs at auction a month ago. I thought for sure they're duck since they're very big and they dont have any destinctive markings. They have been incubating for 30 days. I figured they're probably muscovy since they're taking so long. I also bought some other eggs at auction. They're guaranteed to be duck since I saw the duck lay them; it was a buff/crested duck. about a week ago one egg exploded and so today we were finally aboe to get it out (it was stuck to the tray in the egg turner). Here's the problem. we had to put the eggs from that incubator into the other so we could take the tray out and clean it. When we did, i noticed that the Duck eggs were about 20% smaller than the "unknown" eggs; I had never noticed it before today! So they're geese I guess? We set them 30 days ago. So if they're goose eggs, when will they hatch? I dont know anything about geese! What do I do if my ducks come out as goslings? lolololol. AAAAARGH! HELP! PLEASE!

Goose eggs are a good amount bigger than duck eggs. So I think that it depends on how big the eggs are that you can tell if you have goose eggs or duck eggs! If you eggs turn out to be goslings then I think that you could sell them in the buy, sell, auction!

I had planned to get goslings sometime anyhow. I just havnt researched them yet to know what im doing. here is a picture of the eggs.

duck is the dirty one

I didnt remove the cracked egg right away because I had nowhere to put the others. The racks of the turner only come out if you take out all the racks at the same time. I had to wait till my other incubator was available before I could do anything about it. I know it puts the others at risk. I didnt really have much choice. So I made sure there was a row, in every direction, empty between the broken egg and the others. I hope it didnt effect the others too much if at all. I added pictures, do you think they're large muscovy duck eggs or goose eggs?

Ok, They're Muscovy! They're going to be really cute too; white ones. One piped yestrday morning and up until an hour ago nothing happened. I was frustrated and not sure exactly what was going wrong but it seems like no matter what, this always happens. so i helped it get the outer shell off. I waited another 12 hours and still nothing. so, i very carefully and gentily helped it half way . i had NO problems doing this with vessels or any bleeding since all of the veins were done pumping. It finally got itself out. The only problem i noticed, was that it took 36 hours to get out once it pipped. and i had to help it get that far. It seems to have been in shell too long because its "toes" are all curled. Maybe it will come out of it. What do you think? I have posted before and was told it was a humidity problem, but i adjusted to what i was told to do and still having a problem.

P.S. None of my other eggs, that were supposed to hatch yestrday, have even pipped yet. I candled them to see if they're viable and they all still have movement and beating going on. How long should I wait for them to die if they dont pip? or is there a way to promote pipps?

Just saw this thread. The muscovy eggs take longer to hatch than other ducks. 36 days. Misting them can help them get out of the shell if there is not enough humidity. Both temperature and humidity can affect the development of the ducklings. Watching how the air cell gets bigger as the incubation goes on can help you determine if the humidity is right. Too big too fast, too dry. Too little and it is too wet.

A way to tell duck eggs from goose eggs besides size is the texture of the egg. Duck eggs have a waxy feel and goose eggs are a matt texture like most chicken eggs. Different breeds of geese lay different sizes of eggs, but most are larger than most duck eggs.

Hope you had some ducklings hatch.

How do you know they are muscovies? Muscovy eggs shouldn't be all that much bigger than other duck eggs. The few muscovy eggs I've seen have been very greasy looking. Goose eggs are very white, and they have an almost chalky look to it. Muscovies take 35 days to hatch, goose eggs take about 30.

Curled toes sounds like a temp issue... That is my experiance anyways... If you get more like that you may have had issues with the temp you have not noticed...

I have been monitorig the temp very closely. It has been fluctuating a little but not enough to make a difference. It has been 38 days and 4 are still alive in the shell. What should i do? throw them out?

If you know they are alive you could start to open one just a tiny bit to see if it is ready in your steaming hot bathroom... The worst thing that could happen is it would die which it most certainly would happen if it could not hatch by itself... I would try it with one and see how it goes just barely working on the shell and stop if you see any blood or veins... See what happens with that one first... Sometimes if you just zip it for them they can come out themselves when ready... Just keep the humidity 70% at all times... Are you using more than one thermometer? and maybe it is different temps in different places in your bator... I still think this was a temp problem... You may have to wrap their feet so that they will straiten out if they are bent... If you search on legs or feet I'm sure you will find something on splinting feet... Wish I could be of more help...

I would move your post to the incubation section to get more answers quicker...
