Problem regulating heat...

What is the "Brinsea Ecoglow"?? I've never heard of it.

As for fire satefy, I bought the safest heat lamp on the market.

I can see I will have to find a larger brooder, fairly soon. When someone told me they kept 25 chicks in a brooder the same size, I thought I'd be fine for a while, but they are growing fast! The older ones are getting feathers already! I'm amazed! My coop is done on the outside, but not done on the inside. Its 8 foot by 8 foot inside. But it's just not ready yet. I will put a smaller bulb in the heat lamp, for now anyway. and work on getting a different setup for them soon! Today I am going to leave the heat lamp off, while I go to the hospital. Who could have know all this would be happening just at the time the chicks came! Its crazy. But yes, family is more important at this time... I am just going to have to do the best I can for now and pray its good enough.

Your advice has helped a LOT! Thank you all so much!!!

I am just blown away by how fast mine have grown. They were flying short hops at 2 weeks and look bigger every time I see them.

As to the Eco glows, here are both products. I would imagine the 50 would be best in your situation. My chicks love my 20. (and, no, I don't work for Brinsea

Thanks for the info. Yes, my older chicks, who are only a week and a day old, have been flying across the bottom of the brooder. They don't get much hieght, but they enjoy their short flights!

We planned to put a few in the freezer this fall... however, I am already making pets of them. Oh! We'll see if they actually make to to the freezer. The origina plan was to get this many, keep a few for eggs, and put several in the freezer... lol... I suppose those who end up less friendly, might still make it. However, I wouldn't be surprised if I end up keeping more then I planned!

They did well, the few hours I was away today. So I guess I can calm down about the heat lamp. Since its summer, and generally warm anyway, it doesn't get much below 80 in that room during the day. I still have to get a smaller wattage bulb... but I will do that hopefully this weekend.

Thank you all!
