I have a red dexlink rooster that is about 3 years old. Today i was cleaning out the chicken coop and there was a hen on the nesting shelf that was sitting on 2 eggs. She stayed up there the whole time and was not bothered by me. Then the rooster came in got up on the shelf with her, got the eggs out from under her, rolled them off the shelf and ate them. What can i do about this. I would like to have some chicks so this made me really mad.

Some other info that may help is i also have 2 other black sexlink hens a big all white hen and what i think is a Barred Cockerall. i would also like to have the hens to sit on the eggs. I would appericate anyones help or suggestions.

Sounds like he's not ready to be a father

I never had a rooster egg eater so I wouldn't know what to do other than separate him if you want to keep him

I want chicks, so if i get red of the Sexlink will my Barred Cockerall be able to be a father? He is almost 11 months old and is the biggest chicken in my small breud, he has no spurrs and he dose crow on ocassion.

Stepping up for him wouldent be a problem because he is so big and intimidateing im just worried if he is ready or not to mate.

Empty an egg then fill it with a mixture of lay crumble and mustard, make a paste and pack it in there..set it up in the coop or where it's happening and it usually stops them eating eggs after a few days or right away even.
