Hello

I have a 6 week old mallard duckling, it's starting to get a few feathers but I've noticed one of its wings sticks out. Does anyone know what this could be? Thank you.

Hello
welcome-byc.gif
Fiona. That is called Angel wing. I am currently battling it with 3 ducklings myself. Some say its caused by genetics and others say to much protein in the food. It is most likely a combo of the two. Many never see it and I had never seen it myself till I was given this batch of ducklings.

The treatment is wrapping. Here is what I have bookmarked.

How to wrap with a nylon pantyhose:

I tried the wrapping in the posts first then the video and now I am using pantyhose. The three ducklings I have are little monsters when it comes to ripping the things off so at least the pantyhose is easy to redo. The wrapping I needed another person to hold the duck while I wrapped. The panty hose is just slide it over the head, adjust the wings so the tips are tucked underneath, pull the pantyhose the rest of the way down. I have to redo whatever I wrap with at least 3 times a day because they just won't keep it on. At least they are starting to look better though.

Wow thank you very much :) thats really helpful :) This is my first duckling I've had.
Think I'll try the pantyhose wrap first :)

Only thing I should mention with the pantyhose is that you will need a smaller size. To large and its not going to work. It should be snug when it goes on not strangling just snug. Remember to think of a persons legs in comparison to the duckling. I had to use the lower ankle part of a smaller size to fit mine. They stretch a lot and will loosen up more after being put on. At least that is how mine did. Also watch how your duck does at first. It takes them some time to get their balance.
