Yesterday ended my first hatch and had about 60% hatch. The only problem I had was at lockdown after some chicks hatched the humidity went up so much that I had to remove the chicks too soon and then the thermometer was on the floor so I had no idea of the correct temperature. I even took the plugs out and had to raise a little corner of the bator so I could even see in the top. Any advice for these problems would be appreciated.

It will go up everytime a chick hatches once they start to dry it will go back down. I got 2 sided tape to hold my temp/humidity gages up. Has worked sofar.
That was a great hatch by the way!

Thanks. Do you really think 60% is good? I feel so bad because I only have 16 chicks out of 28. There are 12 still in the bator and Im sure they will not hatch. Its stinkin in there. So I should just leave the chicks in till they dry? Mine were not drying after several hours so I had to remove them.

It will smell but they can take up to 24 hours to dry. It can take eggs to hatch till the 25 day no later. Onces the chicks dry and you remove them you and you still don't have any hatching you can pick up each egg and smell it. If the egg it's self stinks toss it. If not leave it for a day or 2.
My first hatch was on 15 shipped eggs all I got to hatch was 4. So you did really good. Be happy for what you got. Just love your fuzz butts they will make up for any loses you get. Have fun and enjoy them.

Thanks. They are still in there and this is the 23rd day. None have moved or pipped out of 12. If any one of those hatches I would be super shocked.

You could check them now and beable to tell. If it is bad toss them you do not let them burst. That is something you would not wish on anyone and the clean up would just about make you toss the bator and get a new one.

well I did smell them yesterday morning and none of them smelled bad so I left them in. Should I smell them again? They have not moved or anything. I saw them move on the 19th and 20th day but not after that.

If not hatched by now you should toss them. Most likely died before they pipped the aircell or after.
