We have a Buff Orpington who has a problem. She has some feathers under her vent that she is missing. I am sure it could not be molting because it has been like this for months. I have also identified this chicken is the head of the flock. Is this feather loss because of chickens trying to be the head of the flock and someone plucked her feathers out?
Here is a picture of her bottom.

Yes, this looks like feather-picking, a mild form of cannibalism. You should purchase some Pick-No-More or a similar anti-pick lotion, and apply it to the area. See if you can find the aggressor as well, and cage her in a seperate area from the rest of the flock for a week or two, before reintroducing. With any luck it will drop her to the bottom of the pecking order and prevent the issue from reoccurring.

It's also important to try and determine what caused the picking in the first place. It can sometimes be as simple as a mean hen, but other possible causes are boredom, protein deficiency, and crowding.

I do not think there is any more feather picking in the process anymore, I have found no one who has been feather picking or has plucked feathers. Maybe they were competing for the head chicken position?
