I am a lurker, and have never posted before, but I enjoy this forum alot. This is my first time raising chicks. I just got my 7 new babies today and one of them has a scab with egg shell stuck to it on her butt. I washed her butt, but did not get to aggressive because the scab looks about the size a pea and I didn't want to hurt her. She is pooping fine... what should I do about the scab and shells? It is below where she poops from (vent?) I don't know all of the lingo yet, but this does not seem to be pasty butt. Help Please!

What is rooster shell?

Sorry I couldn't resist. It would be best to post a pic.

It might be the yolk still being retracted... that's my guess. In which case you should leave it alone, or I wonder if the shell should come off. Other's will know better than I.

Thanks for joining us, and quitting lurking!
