Problem with Waterer

Just got a new 3 gallon waterer (plastic), and the water keeps pouring out. I have always had 1 gallon waterers so I don't know if this is because it is a larger one or what. Any suggestions on how to fix would be appreciated otherwise I will be returning it tomorrow.

Does it have a rubber O-ring? I'd check to be sure that it's in place and not damaged. The leaking is from not being airtight so also look over the reservoir for holes/cracks.

Putting some vegetable oil or Vaseline on the O ring can help, or just wetting it before you tighten the lid

I had problems with my 3 gallon waterer too. It would not flow at all sometimes and then would dump water other times. That is why I switched to water cups on a line.
