Problems with keeping coop dry/ bedding ideas?

Ok I will go look for one thanks for the warnings

FYI

I have this same identical coop. There have been a couple of new things added since I purchased mine later than Henry:

1. There is no longer a "roosting platform", it has been replaced by 2 roosting poles, staggered. (We converted the bottom one to a droppings board support., and added a droppings board platform just below the tallest of the roosting poles.) I have corresponded w/Henry and advised him how easy it would be to convert his original roosting platform to a droppings board and install a roosting pole above. Honestly I would not have a coop without droppings boards!

2. The nest box cover now has two (as described by Patandchickens) latches to keep the cover very firmly in place.

(The company rep told me these two changes were made as a direct result of customer demand/requests.)

3. We added an extra bolt/ latch to the people door for even extra security. I know this sounds impossible but my husband once watched a raccoon fiddle with a padlock for a hour till he got it open! The dexterity of those nimble little paws must be respected!

Just adding my humble 2 cents.

I wish I had waited a little while to buy my coop I would rather have those roosts and also the latch would be really nice. I have asked for them to send me the roost or help me to re design it I will be doing that in the next few weeks. I also ordered their new wheels so that I can move the coop easily.

Henry it would be really easy to do! You already basically have the droppings board, just lay a board to fit right ontop of the platform you have. Then install a 2x2 or2x4 (your personal preference) a few inches above the board from end to end. Wah la!

And the latches are a no brainer, I would add the extra one to the poeple door too.

AH! The wheels. We passed on those, a little pricy. But darn, now I wish we would have gotten them!

If it helps there is a picture of the new version on www.horizonstructures.com to give you a visual. It might help.

Any questions, feel free to PM me . Glad to help!

I agree with some of the other posts about hanging your waterer.

We have put our waterer (galvanized) up on a 8 inch concrete block with it chained up to the ceiling to prevent the girls from knocking it over. We also have about 6 inches of savings and I turn them every other day. I use DE every week or so and we have no problems with moisture or odor. I truly believe that it is the thick layer of shavings that does it. Your coop is adorable and I'm sure your girls love it.

Really truly, Henry. What she said

It would take like $20 at Home Depot and about 10 minutes -- literally -- to do it

Love the way your coop is laid out. I was wondering if were the poop drops down, is that area a slide out to the outside for cleaning?

No there is no area that slides out but I would love to add one. I am going to probably make one or two 3X4 roosts and hang the waterer and feeder next week and I will add a dropping bored to.
