problems with neighbor's chicken, well mine!

I think you are flirting with disaster if you have that young of chicks without a heat source. An outside temp of what you described in your first post , that even in a dog kennel, inside your garage or coop is too cold . If your chicks are fighting to stay warm and possibly fighting off an infection of some sort they are very much at risk. Just because you put your hand in and it was warm in the middle.. what about the chicks on the outside . The fact that they are huddling together is a big indicator of them being too cold. there are TONS of thread on here about the right temps for chicks on here.. what you described , even at their age is too cold At that age they should still be in about 70- 75 degrees. The chicks should have a heat lamp and the hen should at a minimum be in the dog kennel but being sick she should be kept as warm as possible too.


Good luck, but I would change their environment and not put them at risk like that.
