Just to close the loop, Menards gave me a new YardWorks Plastic Scoop Shovel in exchange for my broken old shovel. They just took the new version (different SKU number) of that shovel and swapped it out for me. I still have 12 years remaining on the original warranty which they say they will continue to honor. I guess I can't complain.
Good thing I kept my receipts with the 15-year warranty. I used one of my Menards Rebate Checks to initially purchase that original shovel, and the department manager told me that without a receipt, they would not be able to go back and verify the purchase. They don't have any way to verify purchases made with those Rebate checks. I suppose it's like a cash sale and not archived in any manner.
I don't know how long this replacement shovel will last before it breaks, but at least I still have 12 years warranty on it and Menards says they will honor it for that long. We will see.
