hello,
i did my 2 meat birds today and it went pretty well i think. i relized plucking is a pain in the butt so one got plucked and one got skinned. my question though is one bird weighed roughly 5 pounds cleaned and the other maybe 2 or 2.5 and looked like a culled rooster, the small one was a cockerel and the bigger one was a pullet but the cockerel didn't look like a normal cornish x he had thinner legs much nicer feathering where as the pullet looked like the frankenchicken thick legs spotty feathering and lazy,
both were fed 20% chick starter that i had left over from my layers earlier in the year.
ill post pics of live and cleaned birds hopefully later tonight if my phone cooperates.

any ideas on why the one was different when they were both cornish x's?

thanks

Congrats on your your first processing experience! Two is a good number to start with! When you say plucking was a pain - did you scald the bird first in 150 water? Feathers rub right off. One the size disparity all I can think is that one wasn't a Cornish or the small one was quite a bit younger than the other. Shouldn't be that much size difference - even with rooster vs. hen - in same age birds.

yes i did scald them, it was much nicer but still not my cup of tea might need to make a drill powered plucker next time,

both birds were the same age
the pictures off my phone won't upload might try to put them on facebook, then switch them over
