In the Brooder
I get raw beef marrow bones at the butcher for my dog to chew on. They cut the bones on the band saw into 2-inch pieces. I now have a collection of 2-inch bone rings that the dog has chewed everything off of and out of.
It seems like this would be a good source of supplemental calcium for my chickens, but I'm not sure how to get it to a form they could eat. I was thinking of roasting the bones in the oven for an hour or two at high temperature (450?) to dry them out and make them brittle and then using a hammer to break them up into small pieces. Has anyone done anything like this? Do you have a better solution?
