Processing costs in your area?

$2.00 per bird ( was 1.75 last year ) extra to cut up. Menonite family in Grantsville MD. - silver lining poultry. they do a fantastic job of cleaning the birds, no pin feathers, etc.

A friend of ours did ours last year for free. SHe wants to arrange a deal this year to do our processing in exchange for some chicks and/or poults for next year. I'm TOTALLY down for THAT.

There's a place in Columbiana, Ohio where it's only $1.85 per bird. I checked into this before we purchased the meaties. I knew I wouldn't be able to do the deed.

Sigh. The only person I know who does it will slaughter, pluck and package for $7 a bird.

Anyone know of someone near Missoula who will do it more reasonably?

I take mine to the Amish. They charge me $1.25 a bird. I think it costs $1.50 if you'd like it cut up. They've done a great job for me!

I found a place east of Saratoga, NY that charges $3.00 a bird, more for big birds like turkeys. I'll drop them off in the am, pick them up later that day, dead, cleaned, plucked, and bagged. This is our first experience with meat birds, so we'll see how it all works out.

1.50 per bird 6.00 for turkeys but she doesnt wrap them you have to bag yourself. but she is very good and its a great price

Near me there is a place called Nelson-Shine produce that does processing of just about any animal you need processed. Chickens are $2.25 a bird packaged and frozen. If you want it cut up it is a little extra and if you want to sell your birds it costs a little more too since it has to be done when an inspector is there.

I'm in Ontario and I will have my first meat birds this year. I called the abbatoir and they proccess chickens for 3.50 and turkeys for 5.00. Seems reasonable to me, and that's the only way I could sell them if i wanted too.
