cyanosis of the comb (blue comb ??? )
yep... because of the heart failure the bird's lung efficiency is compromised and it's oxygen saturation is reduced. In advanced stages it causes cyanosis and it can be observed readily in the comb and wattles. Even the beak and legs can get a bluish tint.... just like a human getting pale or cyanotic lips and nailbeds.

We don't have a huge number of birds at any one time to deal with, so we try to get a good look at each of them once a day for illness or injury. They thing is, you will get used to seeing a certain level of activity from your birds and start to recognize their 'normal'.... and when one gets sick it will stick out that it isn't normal. Usually just increased lethargy or not rushing into the fray for food or something like that. If you see that, then look closer, check for signs of being picked on by other birds and look at their comb and wattle color.
If you get used to looking them over for color and activity frequently when they are young you will pick up on changes quicker.
The cyanosis isn't isolated to meat birds... it is a clinical sign of poor perfusion or shock from other causes also... anything from hypothermia to hypovolemia (lack of blood) which may be due to a internal or external parasite or a previously unnoticed injury, and heart and lung problems as already described.
Think of a chicken's comb as being sort of like your dog's gums... one of the first places to show a problem.

I am once again failing...I sold my last couple cockerels on cl. I knew I would not have the gumption to try again anytime soon so I listed them. But I have plenty chances in the grow out pen and brooder and now with a broody...chicken math.

Stop it! You are not failing. You had one bad experience, and you need a little time to get past it. You will be fine.
