Processing Day Support Group ~ HELP us through the Emotions PLEASE!

you know I am wishing I had some sand for a brooder box right now! I have a chick that I hatched for Chad and I kept it when he took the rest, it was the last one upside assist uggggg and she keeps putting her leg out to the side at times. I noticed when she is sitting in the feed its under her properly, I will assume its from traction! So that's another plus to using sand in the brooder! I tried hobbles, not once have I had luck with them! they fall over and lay there! So for this girl I took out the Ptowels and put her on the shavings in hopes that it helps. I keep holding her for therapy, she isn't too bad anymore. Stinks because I SAID NO MORE CHICKS STAYING in the house! ugggggg and this wasn't mine! lol

I believe the 24 hour lights is recommended for commercial growers and exhibition pen growers (4H) It means they have more opportunity to eat, therefore growing larger faster.

Oh, and I sold the last of the extra ducklings yesterday! Yay! I won't need to process lightweight ducks this fall. :D

Dunno if I ever want to brood ducklings again... DH better hope one of these Khaki Campbells goes broody if he wants more. :lau

Which reminds me that I haven't updated on the 'sitting chick' dilemma that I had asked about...well I took everyones advice and hobbled him and within 24 hours he was running around like the others. I used a bandaid and it held well.
I also had another chick with legs flailing and curled toes and put boots and hobbled her and she was running around the next day and the bandaid did come apart but only because she was running around lol.

LOL I sold the last five I was going to keep! I am not a duck person, they just stink for brooding and I don't have enough area for them! I do love to look at and watch them!

Quote: how did you do your hobbles? I swear I don't do them right that they just fall over! Awesome he is better!!
I put the sticky part around one leg and the other sticky side on the other leg so that the gauze part was in the middle. It really held very well.
Yes, happy to have them both running around, I just wasn't looking forward to killing them...

Looking forward to hearing that yours is running around too.

T&J she is running around! she still slips out on occasion but she is fine! I didn't do a thing but hold her at times with it correct! I swear that dish she sits in with the food helped it on its own! it gave her traction!

look that is HER spot! how cool is that! its the bottom of a waterer I think she likes being at a high spot! it worked most awesome!

The leg issue often corrects itself. The ecoglow helps because they need to push up to keep warm--It is a contact heater.
