A few MEATIES questions

At what weeks age do you really have to watch for leg issues and such?

Also, Will fermented feed make them grow at a faster rate? I swear it makes my brahama grow faster! but that's like watching snails with brahma no matter!
I am uncertain when they are the most susceptible to leg issues, but I have heard that after 3-4 weeks is when they should have food withheld at night(mine would lay at the feeder and eat all night if I let them....LOL). There is a peak time for flips, which is at 3-4 weeks of age, but you have to watch them all the way through, and process anyone that looks to be getting in trouble.

I haven't got the fermentation going....though I have all the stuff....hoping to start mixing it up this week in anticipation of new birds.

i process my own birds, rabbits and pigs by myself with the help of my kids. the hubby said he dont have the heart or stomach lol. but at first i had a lump in my throat and could not do it. so i took to a killer and i ended up spending a handful of money that i could have saved so when time to kill again i took that receipt out AND kept telling myself that is money im throwing away and eventually it has become nothing but a PROCESS. which is really all that it is. good luck to those of you who are having problems, it will get easier.
Thank you! It sure did for us, I actually felt sorta weird or odd for even thinking that I couldn't do it after I did do it. If that made sense! LOL

I had 4 meats....one went legs up yesterday...I think from the heat. They are just shy of 9 weeks old...so I took the other 3 in today to get processed.
I am sorry you lost one. That is always hard when you put that much time and money into one. I just processed my last ones this past weekend. I am raising Red Rangers over the summer, since the CX don't seem to tolerate the heat. I think I am going to stick to the CX only in the fall/winter/early spring to minimize losses. It seems they tolerate the cold way better than the heat.
