I have been watching your natural nest hatch and it was amazing.

Not posting there since I got Jumped on that thread...

Regarding the two that did not hatch, there is no such thing as an egg shell too hard for a chick to hatch from.

The three causes of late term death are, in order:

1. Temperatures too low or too high
2. Humidity too high or too low during incubation
3. Ventilation

Those three things account for nearly all of the causes.

Ventilation is very critical after the first week or so.

It could have been the humidity levels though I really poured the water to the "sponge" the day before I stopped turning and really misted the heating pad over and over on the day of hatch. When I opened up the two dead ones, the membrane inside the egg was very dry, though they were not shrink wrapped at all. The temps were good and the ventilation was good, so I'm thinking humidity.

You got jumped on that thread? I missed that and I hope you ignore it from now on....I need all the help I can get over there.

I love how much I learn here. I am about to process my first roosters this weekend and I'm pretty nervous. I am wondering if there is a video or something I can watch cuz I'm a visual learner I do not want to screw up too bad =)

Search for Joe Salatin on you tube. He's got great videos on how to process chickens.
