Processing Day Support Group ~ HELP us through the Emotions PLEASE!

Don't think that that is a marketing expert in front of a group of college students. Seems more like an animal rights activist preaching to a group of paid actors.

Not that I disagree with the message, but I'll not be snowed by someone talking about willful ignorance while she's counting on the viewer to engage in exactly that to believe what she is saying.

Oh, I thoroughly agree with you on this. We know she was an actor. But it was a good presentation of the facts.

Darn-- Ihave dial up and cant see!!!!

A woman I know is vegetarian, and we have had gentle discussions, clearly respecting each others choices. ( THough he dh is also a vet and thinks it a bunch of nonsense-- I have personally witnessed his views. lol) And I live a low carb diet as much as possible because I am healtheir for in a multiple ways--- I really have a lesser quality of health and wellbeaing when I eat a lot of high carb foods. ANd it doesn't have to be junk food either. Eating whole grain bread , or several servings of wintersquash all leads to a multite of sypmtoms that are only aleviated by eating a high % of meats and fats and a lower carb level than most people eat.

I need meat and fats to be healthy; I could not live on a vegetarian/vegan diet. Exist yes, live, NO. I don't object to vegetarian or vegan, though I have some concerns about getting all the good nutritents for truely good health; but it is not for me, not in this lifetime.

I am planning on processing my young batch of roosters very young this time around. My batch of boys is getting to noisy early in the mornings and I don't want to end up with neighbor complaints.

They are all only about 13-14weeks old. Has anyone processed this young before? I know I need to do it sooner than later but the thought of the lack of meat they will have makes it seem senseless. Thoughts on this are appreciated.

I don't know what breed your roosters, but you are right, there won't be much meat. I caponize my cockerels, so that even if they are slips and begin to develop the characteritics of roosters, it buys me a few more weeks of growth before I need to butcher them. Do you have a restriction about roosters where you live, or are you just being a considerate neighbor?

The 13-14week olds I plan to process are Cochin X Cream Legbar mixes and also pure Cream Legbar. They are getting larger but still not much meat especially the pure CL which are lighter weight large fowl.

I do not have rooster restrictions in my town but this past year the town zoning board was debating on banning roosters do to complaints of crowing roosters (not mine). After many meetings they decided to let the town still have rooster privileges. I don't want to be cause for them to reconsider.

I had many rooster heavy hatches this year. So with currently 15 crowing roosters and about 15 younger soon to be crowing roosters I think it is only polite to neighbors to get rid of a few of the crowing ones. My lot is small and I do have close neighbors, none of who have ever complained to me, but I don't want to be "that" neighbor. So this is all out of courtesy. I have been lucky enough to have rehomed 40+ roosters this year

It is a lot of roosters lol. All hatched here. Im not sure how many I hatched I didn't keep track but my incubators have all been running non stop since December. My very last batch of Cream Legbar chicks are hatching as I type and I have a few staggered batches of turkey eggs incubating and then I am done for the year.

CHIckin PIckin-- I feel for your circumstances . . glad the town did not ban the roosters!!! ANd nice of you to think of your neighbors . . . and a good reason to get more heavily into turkeys!! lol

Is there anyway to keep them in a dark area until you are ready to let them out for the day??

Thank you for the idea, I will try to use black paper to block their coop window, maybe that will help some and buy me a little more time.

lol I have enough turkeys, currently 7 adults, 8 poults from my cinco de mayo hatch(all being raised for the holidays) 3 day olds, and 4 sets of staggered batches in the cooler-bator all due to hatch weekly.
