trying to figure out how to keep this "clean"

i guess the best answer is: the water and anything else that might be in a porta potty.

Oh, I wondered if it was something "septic" related!!!!!!! lol lol lol

I am so excited! I cant wait for March! A lady who buys hatching eggs from me wants to order CX with me in spring!! I wish I would have done it in fall but we had so much going on!

You know when I made my turkey at thanksgiving even though I make a killer turkey, I still think those brahma and cochin roos were so much better after brining in salt and sugar for four days and baging them the same as the turkey!! I have been wanting a real chicken ever since!! I just pray we have the funds for a temp shelter for them! I see more skids on the horizon!

Yay!! We use pallets for everything!. We use them intact and we take them apart. We took some apart and used the base piece 4 x 4s to make trusses for a roof over a small chicken run, then covered it . We have also taken one apart and nailed the slats from one over the gaps in another one to make a solid piece for a floor or wall of a brooder. They are quite useful.

I use them for EVERYTHING inside and out! from signage to who knows what, three of my coops are skid coops and this is our project we are working on now, our lowerlevel with most of the wood, skids dismantled and stained! you cant beat the price! They are horible to dismantle but well worth it when two of us help each other with them! We also have a wall at the buffett completely covered with the same wood look, I just didnt pic it yet. and btw that floor is paperbag flooring, I am so cheap, good thing because I need to be!

I am thinking about doing skid size (floor) breeding pens, I think one skid floor would be ok with plenty of run area for a trio of birds. We have an old woodshed I want to convert. But even though we use skids it still costs for the extra lumber and wire is terrible expensive : (

You mentioned them being a pain to take apart. I bought my husband a set of cordless power tools for Christmas several years ago, and one of them was a reciprocating saw. He put a blade in it for cutting metal, and then cut the nails to take them apart. It made it much easier, and you just have to watch out for the nails if you drill holes before you put screws in.

we do use a sawzaw to take them apart, its still hard because your cutting through the nails and it dulls the blade after two skids. Like I said it works easier if I hold while hubs does the sawing and I can help pull away as he saws too.

Hi all, well iv been putting it off an putting it off the day of my turkey killing. they are being kept in tomorrow no food just water and 'D-day will be this thursday. I have 9 to do, i have had them since august when they were only 4 weeks old. from day 1 they were for the table and i thought i would be fine with it, but as the time has passed i have got very attached to them now, i have never had turkeys before an didnt realise how cute an inquisitive and charicturfull. i have killed a few roosters the last month for practise. i propose to pull neck then blead, pluck then hang by 1 leg till 23rd when i will gut them and truss up ready for delivery as iv sold 8 of them.

. what is the purpose of the hang as my dad never used to he killed 23rd an delivered the same day, but all i read is to hang and some people even hang for weeks. have never hung a chicken, just prossed and fridged the same day. I am how ever a bit worried about the neck pulling as they weigh 35lb at the moment and very strong, has anyone got any tips of keeping it from flapping and pulling its neck as i dont think i could use the broomstick method.
Many thanks from a nervous poultry keeper
