Processing Dual Purpose Roos Tomorrow Morning

Brahamas are a great dual pourpose breed. This is a roo that I processed at 10 months.

I didn't weigh them, but these boys were very large. I dispatch my birds using a small hatchet. One pop & done.

Can't see your photos :(.

So far mine have me impressed. At 5 months though one of my hens has already gone broody. I keep trying to tell her it's winter and below zero but she doesn't care. Her eggs aren't even golf ball size yet lol.

My hens are also going broody. But they are mostly orpingtons, I expect it lol. Here's the pics again, I'm getting used to the new format

Those are some gorgeous looking birds what do you feed them? Is it just layer with treats or do you feed them something else until processing?

I feed the Layena plus Omega 3s, left overs & free range a few times a week under supervision. There are too many preditors to list around here. However I do work at a restraunt so anything that is headed to the trash can usually ends up as dinner for them. Spaghetti is their favorite, mashed potatoes as well. I haven't found anything that they won't eat as of yet.

Okay that's pretty much the same as what I feed mine. I cook a lot at home and only have two other people in the house but I was taught to cook for an army because I came from a big family so there are often left overs that I can give to them. They love ham bones, pasta, potatoes if they are cooked and any veggie. The one thing that they hate is popcorn. My sisters chickens love it but mine will look at me like really you are feeding us this stuff. Mine all have runs and are allowed to free range in a large fenced in area outside of their run. Eventually I will fence my whole property but that will take a bit. Someone mentioned that feeding pig feed to the chickens actually helps them to bulk out more before processing because it's 24% protein but I haven't tried it yet I just usually feed them whatever the other chickens eat plus foraging and snacks which are mainly whatever I cook and have leftover in the fridge or the garden.
