We are having a drought here and the ducks are starting to complain. So, I make a couple of plummed sticks. Hackle and covert feathers are attached pointing downward and angled out from the stick. When the stick is raised in the air and quickly pulled down the feathers open like a flower or an umbrella. The feathers thus pull rain and moisture out of the sky.
When I see my wife or kids walking around the property I give them a plummed stick to carry. They are conditioned to humor the old man. The stick is to be raised and sharply lowered in cadence with their foot steps. Some are self-conscious so I let them either chant out loud or chant under their breath, also in tempo with their foot steps.
Some call it a rain dance, but it is really a summoning of mother nature to restore the water of life equilibrium. It is a tried and true method that has worked for thousands of years. We're getting a little more rain now but have still not caught up.
