Processing Quail

I never asked you to justify it to me. I meant, how does anyone justify it to themselves. Sam, I can understand taking a group of broilers, but quail? You're paying more for the processing than you'd pay to go buy a few ounces of meat. Tack onto that the costs of obtaining/raising, and you're going to be spending a fortune.

Agreed on the quail....but glad to just meant quail...otherwise I might have asked you to drop on over for some broiler plucking this May

Lol. We're using a feather picking machine for ours. I just can't justify the price of butchering, even if I did have to hand-pluck my birds. I do only have 7 meaties though, so it wouldn't be as bad as some people.

Hi there!
I'm a newbie to the world of Coturnix. I'm hoping to get some eggs soon, hatch a few and raise some for eggs and future meals. However,
What are the basics of processing? First, I know is the actual killing. (ow, it hurts to even think about dispatching a little guy that you raised from and egg that didn't threaten you, or your flock

) BUt, I'm told it gets easier after the first few. But, do you starve them for a day or so to make it cleaner?

I also know it's easier to just skin them.
Any help would be much appreciated..It'll be a while before I get to do it anyway, I still have to acquire eggs, hatch and rear.
Oh, what age is best for processing?
Thanks.
