Last year we started a flock with Sex-Links, Tetras, Brahmas and Bantams. We lost a few, but have had very good luck all around. A few weeks ago we picked up some new red babies (breed unknown at the moment, waiting for them to get bigger)...but we got a big surprise today.
Back in January, one of my tetras found a way to escape the yard. She came home once of twice, but then was gone. I chalked her up for gone...and built a better run that is attached to the coop. Formerly, they had the whole half acre to run around in. Anyway, she came home today...with a dozen baby chicks toddling behind her! These babies are so tiny, they must have been born yesterday or this morning. After a moment of shock, I rounded them up and got babies and mama in the coop with some food and water.
The all seem to be fine at the moment. I just need to figure out where to put everyone now!
