I am new to this, so forgive me for being overly paranoid, but I have six new Khaki Campbell ducklings that are apparently a few days old, and they are doing great. But I’m hoping they are warm enough. I have a Producer’s Pride heating plate in their brooder, and they’re in our bathroom. It’s going to be super cold for the next few nights here, and we keep the house between 60-65. I have the plate on the third/tallest tier so they can’t touch it. Is that enough heat for them? I also have a space heater on the counter in the bathroom, and I notice they’re more active when it’s on - and playing in their water dish more - but it gets really hot in the small bathroom. I just added a thermometer but I realize that’s not going to detect the heat from the plate. There is about an inch between their heads and the plate.

thanks!

Personally I would give them a water dish they can't play in. Being wet will make them a lot colder. You can take a plastic container with a lid and cut a hole or two in the top the size of a duckling head. This way they can still dunk their entire heads in but can't get their bodies wet.
