Production Blue?

PB1.JPG
I am assuming they are a blue egg layer?
I raise production blues. I got the original ones from a local breeder who had just started working with the breed...... Mine all (the hens) look like miniature Blue Jersey Giants, but only about the size of a RIR when full grown...

They are very friendly and love attention, I like them much more than the RIR's just because they are not mean to the new chicks (some of my RIR's kill baby chicks that are not their own, so I have to be careful to keep them apart)..
My production blues get along well with all the chickens, even new intro's in the run...

My older ones (18mo.) lay very large light to medium brown eggs and a lot of them.... The older ones are laying right now (just not as many) when most of my others except the Brahmas and a few of our other specialty breeds are laying none at all (it has been very cold here for quite some time)....

I have seen one of the hatcheries offering them, but what they show look sort of grey and bland.... My blues are very pretty birds... I'll see if I can get a pic of one or more of them to post....
Looks like the photo uploaded.... Sorry, not a great shot, but it shows the feather detail nice. The color is off also, in the sunlight they are a very pretty blue to blue/grey depending on the bird...

Our local Rural king is selling “Production Blue” pullets, a brees I’m not familiar with. Usually their staff doesn’t really know anything about the chicks, or I’d just ask them what they are. Are they like production reds?
Our Tractor Supply had them this year. They couldn’t really tell me anything about them so I called the Hachery. They told me they were basically blue jersey giants. I bought 4 so I guess we will see. They are super cute now!

The production blues lay brown eggs and are similar to production reds. They are in the 2019 Strombergs catalogue and can also be found at a number of hatcheries on line. I read somewhere that they lay at least as well as white leghorns.
I am considering starting some.
They supposedly have a great feed/egg conversion ratio. Best of luck.

I just bought 2 blue chicks yesterday from TSC. I was told they're friendly and lay brown eggs. I could care less about the egg shell color. More concerned with their temperament. I have 2 RIR and they're mean. Most of my hens in my first coop are mean to each other.

Don't believe everything you read.
White leghorns have been geared and bred towards the highest egg production and best feed conversion for well over 100 years.
No new comers are going compete with that.
