I raise production blues. I got the original ones from a local breeder who had just started working with the breed...... Mine all (the hens) look like miniature Blue Jersey Giants, but only about the size of a RIR when full grown...I am assuming they are a blue egg layer?
They are very friendly and love attention, I like them much more than the RIR's just because they are not mean to the new chicks (some of my RIR's kill baby chicks that are not their own, so I have to be careful to keep them apart)..
My production blues get along well with all the chickens, even new intro's in the run...
My older ones (18mo.) lay very large light to medium brown eggs and a lot of them.... The older ones are laying right now (just not as many) when most of my others except the Brahmas and a few of our other specialty breeds are laying none at all (it has been very cold here for quite some time)....
I have seen one of the hatcheries offering them, but what they show look sort of grey and bland.... My blues are very pretty birds... I'll see if I can get a pic of one or more of them to post....
Looks like the photo uploaded.... Sorry, not a great shot, but it shows the feather detail nice. The color is off also, in the sunlight they are a very pretty blue to blue/grey depending on the bird...
