Production red roo X Production red hen = White feathered chicks?

I would go nuts trying to figure out genetics!!! Yuck!!! I just wanted some colored brown egg layers lol lol.....I was so wrong I just assumed red parent plus red parent would equal a red chick!!! you know 2 plus 2 equals 4 just made sense......it seems to be sooooo complicated!!!

Sex-link Silver would be a Dominant Gene.

I have a black australorp roo, and a red sex link hen. Would this cross produce white chicks? If not, I have no idea where im getting white chicks from. Other hens are BA, cuckoo marans, barred rock, black sex link and delaware(though she very rarely lays.) Only one roo, the australorp.

Very much so cause most probly one side of the sex-link's original parents was a Dominant white high egg production type something another hen, I'm pretty sure.

I hatched some eggs from a friend....she has hatchery production red hens with a production red roo.....all of the chicks have come out with white feathering and a couple of black spots on back or wing on a couple. Anyone have an explanation or comment on what I may have here? She only has production red roo and hens and one EE hen. weird huh?

to the Original poster. Does your (what you're calling) production red hens have white tails and white in the neck(hackle) feathers. If so these are production (reds) so to say, they are production red-sexlinks or as some call golden sexlink. The other redsex- links that are soild red in color, still yet lighter than production reds are usually a cross between a pro red and a Delaware/Silver laced Wyandotte= cherry-eggers/or red sexlinks its all in however the factory/hatchery wants to call/name them. This crossed onto the Red roo would produce mostly red offspring with a few white or other color patterns sneaking in here or there. Most likely your cross to the pro red hens you've got are GSLs and this is where the white chicks are poping out from as the dominant white from the hens is a very strong suit at least 50% or better will be white or have a lot of white on them. Hope all my blabbing does more good for info than confuzzling you any more so. I know what I'm trying to get across but whether its all the right phrases and stuff is unbeknownst to me. LOL

Black (as in you Australorp) crossed with a Red Sex-link should give you both White and Black birds.

I don´t know what´s all the fuss, these chicks seem to be just plain old wheaten(both parent should be wheaten based, there is no reason for any of the chick to be a solid black/white colored as none parent are Extended Black or Birchen based, )

to the OP. do they look anything like the below chicks? can you post some pics?
