proffesional dog breeder advice. UPDATE: We have a tie!

yay!!! last night we got home around 9:30 and let them out together it was an awesome night stayed in the 60's so we sat out there for hours. He would mount her, get in her and I think when it would just start to swell she would wine and turn pulling away, I tried grabbing her but then he would unmount. This morning I let her out and she wouldn't even let him mount her, I was like great what happened there? I brought her back inside (seems like if they are separated then put back together they are more willing to do what needs done) Also he is not tied unless we are not out there, or won't be checking on him every few minutes. This afternoon, well about a half hour ago he mounted her again, he had a good grip and she started to whine and turn, I grabbed her collar and said Stay. He tied her immediatly, they stayed tied for about 10-15 minutes, I had to hold her still for the first few minutes but then she stayed there. Also she kept pooping, while they where tied! I kept kinda wiping it with a paper towel, cause it kept falling on him, poor guy. I don't remember any of the females we bred our male to ever doing that? But then again, Annie always has to be different. I took pictures, though I am not sure what I plan to do with pictures of dogs tied together lol.
So I am hoping for one more tie tonight or tomorrow, but I think we will take Brutus back home tomorrow afternoon since my husband is going back to his sisters to help paint more, and his parents is on the way. So I am hoping for another tie, but if not, I feel like we will hopefully be having puppies anyway. I am so excited. I think I will start a thread monitoring her progress, like weight each week etc. will help me remember to keep track of it. Having only ever owned a stud dog before this is all new to me.

Thanks again for all the help, I will keep you all updated, I really don't know what I would do without BYC! Anytime I need help with anything, people, or animal related you guys are always here.
Thanks

Looking forward to a 9 week update.

I would definately get another breeding in, even if you have to drive up there again to do it. Since she's just now ready another breeding would be timed better with ovulation.

Well they tied again this afternoon. We talked to my mother in law and she said, " Just keep him a few more days to be sure. Its so quiet around here with just Maxi, so no hurry about bringing him back. Next weekend is fine." lol Maxi is her dog a Welsh Corgi, she might not be missing Brutus but I know his dad is. Still we plan to keep him here for the next week, we will give them an opportunity to breed every day this week if they want.

Well off to work, will check in tomorrow morning

Jamie I wish I would of read that a half hour ago, I turned her out to go potty and let brutus loose to run the pen with her ( he won't jump if she is in with him) Every other time I have had to hold her to let him tie. I made coffee and went back out and they where standing by the front door tied. So I need to move him out of the fence then? So he can't get to her again until wednesday? Is this crucial to her getting pregnant or just for litter size? I'm not sure I am to worried about litter size. I am going to be working on my whelping kit today, figuring out what I have and what I still need.
Also for anyone who noticed my post on feeding Annie the "raw" diet, she doesn't like it. Saturday we where gone most of the day so though she had dog food down she didn't eat anything, so yesterday morning I took out a raw chicken hindquarter and gave it to her, she sniffed it and walked away. What kind of dog turns down chicken? I may be stuck cooking her meat, then I will probably have to add other things to it to get the nutrients back from having to cook it. We started with the chicken because chicken treats are her favorite, she loves chicken jerky and chicken strips and those wagon train chicken treats.

Well I am off to do chores, its 64 today so its to nice to be inside all day.

Just now noticed you are in IA also! Spreading the days out gives you a better chance of covering her, if she stands a little early, sperm is only live in there for a short time, and you might miss it by a day, by breeding every other day, you are insuring a good number of sperm on the days she is most likely to concieve. If you are cooking her meat, you still have to give her raw bones. And be careful with a raw diet and a pregnant grump, very few people can formulate raw for a grump and pups (right balance of raw meaty bones, organ meat, and fiber).

Actually under optimum conditions of sperm quality and vaginal health, sperm can remain viable in a b*tch for up to 6 days. Multiple breedings over a span of time simply allows you to more likely cover the time of ovulation.
