Hi all- first post here, maybe I should've introduced myself in the correct forum first. Oops. First of all, what a great site this is!! Hopefully I'll be able to provide others with as much info as I have gleamed from reading posts here. Our six baby red sex-links are growing faster than my coop construction is going so I have to get cracking, thus my questions...

The coop being built here looks close to what I'm going for so I'll start here-

Windows- I think I ordered the same ones off of ebay. I noticed you put them in before the siding. I was planning on doing so after the siding, I thought it would require less precise measuring as you could just cover the window holes then cut out the siding with a jig saw as opposed to pre measuring and hoping you were accurate. Are there any issues to the way I'm planning? I got flush mount windows and was going to trim them, fyi...

Also- is the window on the pop-door side of the coop just like the others except put in sideways? I like that idea...

I guesse that's all for now, but plan on many questions from me in the future!

Actually, I sort of like the flat surface on top of the nestboxes. They will enjoy sitting in the windows. Besides, even if you had sloped that roof, the slope wouldn't have been enough to keep them off, so just go with it.

Maybe consider putting a small lip around the top of the nestboxes and then using a scrap of the linoleum or else priming/painting the flat surface so that you can put shavings up there. Would make it easier to clean.

I can tell you are going to be a good chicken parent. The coop looks great. Enjoy the process!

I 2nd CityChooks suggestion. The chickens are going to love looking out the window.

Most folks will tell you not to let the chicks roost above the nest boxes because of the poo. They are going to get poo everywhere anyway, what's a little more in my book.

Put vinyl or something down to make it easy to scrape off.

Look forward to seeing more.

Pbrian, Welcome to BYC. I know your area well. I work in Windsor a couple of days a month. My wife grew up in Avon.

I am going to trim out the windows because I am using cedar shakes for siding. I am going to groove the back of the trim boards so they will lie flat over the small lip of the windows. I temporarily placed the windows during framing to make sure the fit was perfect. I took them out to apply the sheathing.

I like the look of the run side window too. Total accident. The top of the run would hit the window if I placed it vertically.

Good Luck. Make sure you post your progress.

Update:
Completed the roofing, insulation, and interior plywood sheathing.
Also got a start on the trim.

Big push next weekend as the birds are getting big very fast.
