Well last night when I checked on the girls, the older girls were on their roost at the top and for the first time, the 2 little ones were roosting on the roost right below them so thought that was great!
Tonight it's a bit different. When I first went out, the littles were roosting in the window next to the top roost and while I was there, one made her way over to the top roost with the big girls but the other one stayed in the window. There's room for all of them on the top roost but didn't know whether I'd create a big stir if I tried to move them. I suppose they'll figure it out but I'm glad they are figuring things out on their own.
The littles are still not going outside to the run at all and stay in the coop all day. Guess that's the next situation to deal with but slowly seems like it's heading in the right direction. :clap Going now to see if anything has changed.

It's fine. Over time they will sort it out, so don't worry.
Is that only window screening on that window? Change it to well secured hardware cloth ASAP!!! Raccoons can get right through that, after climbing up the wall, and you will loose birds!

Well when I went back to check on them, they were still in the position they were with the one in the window so they probably spent the night that way.
Folly's Place: yes, it's just a regular screen. Wanted to make a frame with hardware cloth and hinge it over the window so I could still get to the window to clean it but that hasn't happened. Yes, it concerns me.
Thanks for the positive vibe chrissynemetz! Actually the littles have been sitting on the top roost during the day as they won't go out into the run with the big girls yet so they are used to the top roost.

I'd do that pronto for pred protection, and cleaner windows sills. But this coop and thus the windows situation, is not new, is it?
I'd have moved them to the roost after dark.

No, the window situation is not new. I had another flock of chickens which I had over a year and a half (which my daughter now has) that were in this very coop as is.
Just checked on them tonight (we were gone for a while) and somehow the automatic door closed sooner than the girls were evidently ready to go in and they got locked out. Two little girls were already on the roost so had to move each of the big girls back into coop onto the roost. The one closest to the little girls was pecking at them and I reprimanded her :p and hurried and shut the lights out so maybe they'll just sleep without bothering them. Pretty snuggly with all seven on top roost and the littles will still be growing more. Something else to think about......
