Project criticism - what do you think a project is?

They used to come in Red, Cuckoo, White, Black and Spangled. Since the spangled variety are still in the US the breeders should focus on having them approved by the APA first, like to amazondoc mentioned about the Marans, and adding the other colors one at a time down the road as they are perfected. If you're interested in eggs pm or e-mail me, I should have some available late spring - summer since we stop hatching in May

They are coming --- like it or not. I don't have to ask for permission or blessings, hahaha.

Lisa

I'm working on it too.

I thought they'd just be cool to have. Have F1's at about 15 weeks old now. My F1s have slate leggs/feet though. If all goes well, I plan to have F2 this Summer or Fall, and a second line of F1s to expand next Spring.

Me too! ...or 5 or 6 or whatever the count. I want looks and body type, but all those other things as well.

The Araucana breed has several leg colors - from yellow to willow to black. I don't see why other breeds couldn't be accepted the same way. I would think that is up to the APA/ABA and if the bird breeds true consistently.

Well, I can't say it was by design. I crossed a Blue Ameracauna roo to Barred Rock hens. In the F1s, I have a blue barred cockerel and 5 black pullets. All 6 of them have slate legs.

I'll get some close pictures which show their legs either Mon or Tue and post them.

Once they're old enough I was going to breed the F1s together to get barred offspring in both sexes for the F2s. And I'm now working on a 2nd cross of F1s with another roo and different BR hens to give me a 2nd line.

Again - Just thought they'd be cool to have. I'm not interested in getting them accepted as a standard. I don't show birds.

We sell eggs (for eating) and POL pullets. I started the project in order to get better laying EEs by using the BRs. Working toward barred ameraucanas seems like a natural next step to the project.

Of course, I intend to breed the Blue Ameraucanas pure as well.
