Project Lav & Split Black Orps I hatched

Krys109uk Yes i seen she used leghorn,
Than that is why we haven't seen size lost by to much at this point..
Will there stock be available sometime soon, that is probably the same folks Lester's bloodline came from..His bloodline is from the state of Indianan, as lester is darn close to being there in orp looking..hopefully we can bring his offspring to the same but hopefully better in time. there's always room for improvement in anything..

I don't know Lester.

I've been using ours in projects. Getting ready to make porcelain (if we get to the jubilee & blue variant this season as I hope)....making lavender mottled & lavender cuckoo at present. We are not sure whch way to go with the plain lavenders ......the hens are fine & as they ough to be but the nicest typiest lavender male came from a project & carries some incorrect genes

Krys109uk, we had some lavender mottles as well but that group was taken by a friend in CT. So he is working with them. they were nice but we just didn't care for the white and lavender together..

We also had a male lavender here as well that was part of our Project orp that had a crested gene, as a chick it was barely visible and once he was fully matured it could not be seen on him as the straight comb pretty much help hide it on him, it was basically a incomplete type of crest, nostril size was not like that of a bird that would have a crest. In our breeding it only showed up on small% of the chicks hatched, but after hard thought and consideration we decide to cull that whole line except i kept 3 chicks here that were not carrying the Gene. i figure its a dominate gene and so the chicks not showing it wouldn't have it. needless to say the rest all went to a breeder in NY who is using them in his project birds he is going to work on inhancing the crested gene and he is well known for some of his birds on feather site, i promised i wouldn't say his name and must honor that.

Its kind of like what is one poulters cull is another poulters dream bird LOL

heres a pic of Lester After his molt, ~~hinkjc bird~~, he is certainly not perfect, but we intend that his offspring down the line shall be..

Cripes, I'd have culled anything carrying a crested gene too. I'd imagine there'd be lots of people wanting any lavender bird just for the genes.

I'd agree lavender mottled is quite a subtle colour as is lavender cuckoo.

How about lavender partridge?? We got a few of those last year without expecting it

They came from our partridge & blue partridge orps. We'd forgtten about the possibility of lavender being in the lines. Wasn't really what we had in mind, but they look rather pretty so perhaps we'll continue. : The father is a beautiful huge blue partridge.....& carrying lavender... oooooops

Oh I didn't notice you had the picture of Pricilla Middleton's lavender off Feathersite.....that is an old piccy. She brought them on since then....as did others. When back in Britain we had some via Gary Sexton; he'd split up a trio & put them with some top notch blacks from a line that had been winning lots at that time. We did have a pic of the male up on the orp group site.....wish I had those birds now:( ....Oh well, ....c'est la vie

Krys, Then i know we are going in the right direction considering he looks so similar to hers at this point..we are very confident in them now..
clap.gif
and have been from the start...much work needed but not that far out of reach for us and the many with them now..cant wait till all are offspring grow out to show everybody how they look, they are very nice at this point comparing them to lester as a chick many will look much better than he himself looks now. the lavender is much more defined and not so choppy(ticking) the body looks good on most and should as well in the final grow out time from are comparison to Lester's grow out time

Lavender orps will rule soon enough in the USA...

i seen him on your site they were smokin hot..that male was awesome..

Lester looks somewhat chestier than Priscilla's bird in that pic. Did you get some nice exhibition blacks to put with your lavenders? A few people seem to have some nice blacks these days. Nikki Riddell had some lovely blacks at a show we went to not so long ago.

Krys, No our blacks were not anything special, no name brand birds as far as i know, just black orps from one of our friends, not sure were he got them as i didn't ask and I'm not to worried about that but I'm sure he's had them longer than most as this guy is up in his late 70's and had them for some time, unfortunately he has culled his whole flock including some other great breeds he had, said he's getting to old to care for them, they were not exhibition as far as i know, however some of them surely could have been shown, We may introduce some other down the road, but for now we will continue on with what we have now. as we have other projects as well to focus on along with the orps, we will be taking baby steps from here out.

he maybe be chesty i don't know, it may be the angle of her bird against ours, however My one big buff orp is chesty and everybody thats been here is amazed by him ,but he has similar body type compared to my buff orps we have, and i see not much difference in him to them. Like i said more work needed but not that far off..

I'm a tad bit over 6ft and about 213lbs, you can see his size compared to me, he is a pretty big bird
