Hello all! Thank you for visiting. My Golden Neck d'Uccle Summer, has been very sickly for the past month. I'm not sure what's wrong with her; which really worries me.
Her Story:
Summer hatched out of Privett Hatchery on September 12,2013. She was taken to the feed store with around another fifty chicks. I wasn't planning on getting chicks the day I went to the feed store, but you know chicken math! I bought her, and two other chickens: Odysseus (Black Cochin Bantam) and Ivan (Mixed Ameraucana). They were strong and healthy until December. It took me awhile to notice, but Ivan was acting very sickly. He didn't do barely anything and just stood around and slept. I noticed one morning his sinuses were bleeding, that evening, January 3,2014, Ivan passed away. Weeks later, Summer started acting the same way and is still acting sick to this day. I have no idea what's wrong with her, I'm thinking it's genetic. She hardly ever opens her eyes anymore and she just stands around and sleeps. Thoughts and prayers appreciated! Please follow this thread for future updates on Summer. Thanks!

Quote: First off, I would separate her (if you haven't already), and use STRICT quarantine. When I have sick birds like that, and when I care for my flocks, I always take care of the sick bird last. After I'm done feeding, watering or petting everybody else. Then go inside and thoroughly wash your hands.

I treat my birds homeopathically. My usual treatments include: Garlic, ACV, Arnica, and other tinctures.

I would start her off with the Garlic in her water.
We use Kyolic Garlic juice.

And I would also dust her for mites and lice. I use D.E.

Hope this helped.

I am so sorry about your birds. However birds that sit around, fluffed up and get more and more lethargic sounds like cocci to me. So you might try some corid on her. There is no egg withdrawal for corid. Also, her sinus's look swollen to me. So it might not hurt to run some Duramycin thru her for 10 days and see this does not stop the bleeding sinus's.

I hope she makes a full recovery.

Thanks for the advice! I might start treating her more if she gets worse.
How long has she been sick? Is she losing weight? Any diarrhea? Is she eating or drinking?
She has been acting ill off and on throughout the past month. I don't think she's lost wait, no diarrhea that I know of, and she is drinking and eating a little bit.

Your questions prompted an idea in my head.. Could it possibly be cocci?
I have thought that before, but Coccidiosis doesn't have a very long incubation period :/

Summer is gorgeous! Here's hoping your sweet girl gets better fast.

Summer has been looking a little better to me, at least a little more perky.
