I’m cracking down on this wee one’s prolapse today. Silkie, about a week old. It’s fairly small and not getting pecked at, but returns shortly after I replace it with a qtip. Drenching coconut oil, has coconut oil watery mash, Nutridrench. Just picked up some Preparation H. Anything else I should try? I’ll grab a pic when I get home

Prep H is adequate but cortisone cream is better as it takes care of pain and swelling.

How old is this "wee one"? Is it getting grit? Is it eating and drinking and pooping? Is its behavior lethargic? Is it still in a brooder under heat? How warm is it? Too much heat can cause poop issues.

Feeding things other than plain feed can cause digestive issues if no grit is given. If the chick is constipated, it may be chirping loudly and constantly since straining to poop can be very painful.

It’s probably a week old? You can see the batch of them here and get a bit more background info. I think I have cortisone cream here, thank you!

Eats and is not loud, very active. That’s part of the problem, it popcorns around the pen so happily and pops the dumb vent right back out. I separated it briefly today for a good look at its stool and it’s indicative of inflammation (pencil stool). I have no added grit since they’re only on Manna Pro crumbles. There’s a warm side and a cool side (baby play pen) and they don’t hang out in one specific spot

It wouldn't hurt to give the chick a little coconut oil to soften its poops to make it easier to poop. Take a teaspoon of coconut oil and divide it into pea size bits then chill until hard. Slip one piece at a time into the beak and let her swallow. Try to get all one teaspoon into the chick. This will make it a lot more comfortable and after it poops some good turds, the prolapse should retract.

Oh my gosh, she’s so difficult to get into her mouth!!! Teeny tiny mouth and I’m so afraid of hurting her head 😅 It was so much easier to dose everyone (standard sizes) with Corid lol

I am undecided on if it’s improving or worse… There’s no little reddish tissue peeking out, but the whole area seems slightly more pronounced than usual. Maybe it’s just the greasy ointments and stuff making it all look bigger
