Prolapse --- need advice!

My very favorite hen (isn't that always the way) has a very red prolapse showing. I don't know how long it was like this, as I only discovered it today. I took her to the vet and he recommended putting Neosporin on the outside and gave me an antibiotic liquid to squirt inside twice a day. Also told me to gently put it back inside, which I've been doing. But every time she poops, out it comes.

Is there anything else I can do for her? He also suggested keeping her in a dark place, so she doesn't try to lay an egg.

Is there a cause for this? Should I have her poop checked for worms or anything? Her bottom also appears to have all the feathers pulled out. I tried the honey that I saw on here once, but he felt the Neosporin would be better.

Is there anything she should not eat while she has this? Normally, she has access to layer crumbles, scratch, sometimes spinach, corn on the cob, bread, strawberries, sometimes mealworms for a treat. Could any of this have caused it? I am just so upset about this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Breed and age of hen? If there is an egg inside then the prolapse situation will not resolve until the egg is out.
put your bird in a warm bath (covering just over the vent) ... keep in a very quiet darkened room > ue KYgel around the vent (stop the neosporin > using it too much might damage those sensitive tissues) > keep the poop cleared away (remove immediately) and hopefully she will lay that egg soon (you may need to repeat the warm bath a couple times)... once the egg is laid you can put on some pre-H around the rim of the vent to encourage it to "shrink".

She is an Olde English bantam, just over a year. She hatched three babies last year. When I put it back inside, I felt all around but could feel no egg. Should I still do the bath?

The prolapse is still there and I am still putting it inside. I am using the honey again since it was suggested that Neosporin is too strong. She is not eating, but did eat some warm oatmeal. Is this okay? My vet is not used to chickens and I really need some help! Thanks.

I could not feel any egg inside. ????
