We found our fav chicken like this this morning. I know it’s a prolapsed vent but I’m not sure how to care for that. Also, what is hanging out of it?
I have no idea what to do. Help!

It appears that she has a collapsed egg shell membrane coming out of her vent. I would try to gently pull it out, but don’t force it. Other chickens may try to pull it out. Have you seen any egg contents in her droppings? How old is she? Is she eating layer food or does she have crushed oyster shell available?

Keep her prolapse moist with oil or cream until you can push it back inside.

I would keep an eye on her. If a prolapse happens when she is with the other chickens, she is in danger of being vent pecked and hurt. The super layers always have a higher incidence of problems with so many eggs and larger eggs. Good luck.
