I have a hen that has recently developed a prolapsed vent. I have been treating her with recommended preparation H and Neosporin and pushing the prolapse back inside. I have also been giving her Agrimycin and electrolytes. The swelling has subsided somewhat but it continued to protrude. I have her secluded from the others and have NOT fed her any laying feed. I have been doing this now for a week and it continues to protrude. Should I continue what I am doing and for how long?? Or does anyone have any other recommendations. Is there an injectable antibiotic I should be administering?? Thanks for any help and suggestions.

hi it seems your doing all you can do. I have head of some people putting honey on the prolapse then gently putting it back inside and holding it inside with gentle pressure outside of the body to keep it from popping out and holding for about 10 to 15 min. some have had good luck with the honey helping it to stay. you might want to give that a try. I wish you the best

Is she continuing to lay eggs?
Are you keeping her in a place with limited light?
Give it more time.
I'd give it another week or so, and see what happens.
I had this happen to a hen of mine about 10-12 years ago, and she did heal. I forced a molt, and kept pushing it back in every time it was out. I forget how long it persisted, because it was years ago.

Her eggs were very large in diameter, and I guess that was the problem.

After she healed, she would prolapse after each time she layed, but it would go back on it's own with in 5 minutes.
I've hear that this isn't always the case though.
Hoping for the best.
