Thank you so much for your valuable insight!!!The Intestine and Vagina both join at the vent. So you may see 2 holes protruding. A lot depends on what has prolapsed.
I would clean as needed and keep the exposed tissue coated with oil or ointment so it doesn't dry out and get the extra calcium into her.
You guys absolutely rock!! You may have just saved my Helia!!
How long do you think I need to give her until the swelling comes down?
I'm on my own today, so i'll have to wait until later to give her the sits bath. Do I have to keep her completely confined in the pet carrier or can I have her run around the outbuilding she's in?
If she's in the outbuilding by herself where other hens can't pick at the exposed tissue, she can move about. She may like that and won't be so bored.Thank you so much for your valuable insight!!!
Will the calcium make her produce eggs at this point? (I really don't want that for her) Or will the trauma keep the eggs at bay until she heals?
Sorry I have only done this once and the bird was a meat bird in design so she died within a few weeks of fixing the prolapse. Our meat birds are designed to exit stage left whether harvested or not by the time they're 12 to 18 months old.
