Prolapse

I'm on my own today, so i'll have to wait until later to give her the sits bath. Do I have to keep her completely confined in the pet carrier or can I have her run around the outbuilding she's in?

The Intestine and Vagina both join at the vent. So you may see 2 holes protruding. A lot depends on what has prolapsed.

I would clean as needed and keep the exposed tissue coated with oil or ointment so it doesn't dry out and get the extra calcium into her.
Thank you so much for your valuable insight!!!

Will the calcium make her produce eggs at this point? (I really don't want that for her) Or will the trauma keep the eggs at bay until she heals?
Sorry I have only done this once and the bird was a meat bird in design so she died within a few weeks of fixing the prolapse. Our meat birds are designed to exit stage left whether harvested or not by the time they're 12 to 18 months old.

You guys absolutely rock!! You may have just saved my Helia!!💗💗💗
How long do you think I need to give her until the swelling comes down?

If she's in the outbuilding by herself where other hens can't pick at the exposed tissue, she can move about. She may like that and won't be so bored.

The Calcium is to help with retention and healing. It's an extremely important part of healing a prolapse.

She's going to produce eggs if she's in lay. You can't automatically turn off production. That would take weeks and she'd need reduced feed and total darkness for 16hrs a day.

Keep the tissue cleaned as needed and coated with ointment. If she's got another egg on the way, she' may prolapse more, it can be hard to know.

Swelling takes time to reduce too, so if she's tolerating the soaking once a day, you can continue with that.

Hopefully this will resolve fairly quickly, but sometimes it can be weeks before a prolapse heals up and will stay in.
