Prolapse?

Newbie here! My chicks hatched today while I was at work (day 22) and one of them has this red bubble hanging out of his bottom. Should I do something or let it take care if itself? Also--the first 2 chicks hatched 24 hours ago--and I have 3 that have not fluffed yet--but I have two more eggs without even a pip--when should I move all to the brooder?

Hello and Welcome To BYC! It looks like it might be an unabsorbed yolk sack. You might try putting the chick in a small jar or plastic tub to let it continue absorbing the yolk sack without being disturbed, not sure if you have seen it, but the Hatching Eggs 101 article talks about open navels and unabsorbed yolk sacks etc and some things to try, about 3/4 way down the page. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101 this article talks about problems with yolk sacks https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/mushy-chick-disease-yolk-sack-infection-omphalitis

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Yes, looks like an unabsorbed yolk sac. You might wrap the baby in damp paper towel and keep him under 100 degree heat by himself. Sometimes this will help to absorb the sac.

That little baby died last night and when I took his brothers and sisters (4) out of the bator, they were crusty --not fluffy like last night. How do I get the crust off? I think it might be something from the dead chick?

So sorry about the loss of the baby. You can lightly wet the crusty feathers or even hold them under some warm running water. Just be careful and don't stress them too much. Make sure to blow dry the wet babies off so they don't chill. Enjoy your new chicks!
