One of my hens tried to lay what I believe was her first egg and it did not go well.
About 6 days ago when I went to let them out I saw that her "insides" were coming out of her vent and an egg was in. I did a warm bath w/ Epsom salt, Vaseline and all the home remedies I found online and she still could not pass it. So, I had to make a tiny cut in that membrane and pull the egg out. I have been trying to help her recover, doing baths, pushing it back in, applying preparation H, Neosporin, she is in a dark space etc.
My question now is, she has been drinking well and eating a little, neck is upright, she stands up, "looks good" except for the prolapsed which was shrunk a little but its still there, my concern is she now has scar tissue (dark and crusty) at the end of her prolapsed vent. Is that a normal part of healing tissue or is it taking a turn for the worst?
I would appreciate any help from the group.
Thank you,
Aline
