prolapsed vent with eggbound

Drinking is even more important than eating. If you can pick her up, you could try dropping water along the side of her beak, a drop at a time. Usually they will pull it in and swallow it, kind of automatically. It is possible that a little of this will at least get her drinking again.

I'm sorry you are going through this. It's especially hard, since you don't really know how badly they feel, or whether they can actually recover or not. I wish you well!

Judy is right about the water...

I forgot to mention that tube feeding food should only be done after the bird is properly hydrated. I have found that the average chicken needs about 10% of it's body weight per in fluids per day, especially if they're laying, which is easy to do with a tube.

I'm available by phone to teach anyone how to do it and have coached many people, including a young teen. All one has to do is get the supplies, send me a PM and I'll call them or reply with my number and they can call me.

Dehydration will kill very quickly.

Yes she seems better today, prolapse is in now hopefully it will stay there, what can I do to guard agaist flies? And if she does recover how long should I wait before I return her to coop and will they bother her she has been out of coop of a week. We saw a fly maggot crawling around on her before we bathed her but I haven't seen anymore yet. What should I do about that? Also I had another hen lay a soft egg can I give her liquid calcium that is for humans, I am geeding them layers feed and extra oster shell I dont know what the deals is.

If there are maggots inside her, in a wound, you need to get rid of them. Let's hope there are not!

Flies are a pain; I don't know of any sure cure. Peiple use fly traps, sticky strips, etc. Also, you can pick up some pelletized lime or Stall-Dri and sprinkle on the fresh poop daily. This discouragees flies from being attracted to the poop or laying eggs there.

Hopefully, the soft shelled egg is a one time accident -- which is fairly common if the bird is new to laying. If one bird consistently lays them, she may have an illness or a defective shell gland. You can try a calcium boot although it sounds like they have enough available.

Well I have had 4 chickens to lay soft shelled eggs so I think they aren't eating the extra oyster shell left out for them maybe to big dont know, but we crushed some up and put on food to try to get some back in them, my sick chicken seem to be doing very well when can I put her back w flock I have been letting some hens out with her so they stay acquaint but I was concerned about the rooster if she could handle his harassment.
