I know this topic went around a long time ago, but I need a refresher. In all the years I've had chickens I've never had one with a prolapsed vent. Now I do and I remember the advice about the preparation H, is that all I can do for her? She seems fine otherwise...I cut away the feathers around the vent and am keeping her inside. Should I give her antibiotics or just treat the vent?

Thanks, I thought the preparation H was the solution, she is pretty young and the roos are also going after her pretty hard. I am in the process of building a separate unit for the roos, give the girls a break every once and a while! She seems okay, I'll just have to be diligent and push it back in. I can get it to stay for a minute if I hold her, but she pushes it back out when I set her down. I hope the ointment shrinks the tissues in a couple of days.

Norco, I am not far from you, I am in Ramona, just outside San Diego, the place famous for fires!

one thing that is often confusing...pushing it back in and using the prep H is for treatment AFTER the egg has been laid.
