pronounce wyandotte

True, but if you're mispronouncing the word "why", phonics isn't going to mean much.

/w/ is not the same as /hw/

/w/ is the sound in water, wait, William, word, wine and wyandotte

/hw/ is the sound in why, when, where, what

My husband has downloaded all kinds of software to our computer for making different symbols and accents. Mostly it's used for other languages.

Thanks, great link, I bookmarked it for future reference.

Wy-an-dot, (or Wy-uhn-dot) with no "wh" sound. I know there are people who mispronounce "wh" sounds, so they say "wen" for "when", "were" for "where", etc., (and often mis-spell these words as well) but if you don't even pronounce the 'WH" sound where it does belong, why add it to a word where it doesn't belong, such as Wyandotte?

That's how I pronounce it to and I got this one guy that always try to correct me by saying. wyn dote I get a kick out of it.

This makes me think of the people that can't seem to pronounce the name "Hugh" or the city "Houston".

Instead of the "hy" sound, they say "You" and "Youston".

My ex hubby drove me nut with this.
