Hopefully, I'm not coming in too late on this thread to get an answer.

I just asked a friend the proper pronunciation of Marans and got the same answer (S is silent!), but when I asked about the plural, she didn't know beyond saying, "Poulet Marans." You know pronounced poo-LAY mare-ann(as you indicate). Quite possibly that is the only option in the French language.

Do you, Miss Jayne (or anyone else), know the proper way to say, "I'm going to go feed my plural Marans chickens" without using the "poulet" word? Is there a plural for Marans chickens? I mean, really, I am here in the States and I don't want to sound like I'm putting on airs by running around saying "poulet Marans."

Sometimes I just call them Morons so that I don't sound so hoity toity, but it seems unfair because they are such sweet birds. I guess I could call them the Black Coppers.

Well, I believe the "ultra rare" or(silent)pingtons are in some manner related to the opossums, animal kingdom classification notwhithstanding.

And I am QUITE sure that the amrecarinanas are adept at line dancing.

Do you ever get asked to order anacondas? I've seen information requests on them before.

i am not 100% on this, maybe another person with more knowledge will jump in, but i think here in the states you can either put the 's' on the end or not and not be shot.

my husband bought me those pink boots. said he couldn't have his best girl out doing chicken chores (or whacking varmints) in ugly muckers.

envy not! go to the TSC or whatever you have near you and get some coolness boots! for cryin' out loud don't wear ugly muckers! ack! it's fun to look down and see pretty mucks! especially if you know you have funky black or blue sparkle toe polish underneath your socks! (which by the way, i like to wear two different socks everyday. yes, i do. it's weird, i know. it's just a thing with me.)

okay...and thank goodness your chickens no longer must cringe at being called, dare i say, duckelles. ick. ack. it's so wrong. wrong, wrong, wrooooongo.

they have polka dot muckers too you know.....just sayin.....

Maybe not. Apparently the D'uccle breed started in Uccle, Belgium. The town has a website with audio to help pronounce it. It sounds like "uckle" to me. Sorry, I think I channeling Cliff from "Cheers."

yes, but the name is FRENCH, not BELGIAN, so it is said with a french accent. a frenchie, not a belgie.

they speak flemish and french. here we say, 'doo clay'. (Barbu D'Uccle)
that is why we pronounce the 'D' in D'uccle, to separate the 'u' in Barbu and 'U' in Uccle. you cannot have two consonants together at the end of one word and the beginning of another in the english language.

then it is translated for english, with the color then the breed,
ie: Porcelain D'Uccle, Mottled D'Uccle etc.
